Antarctica’s unique status as an icy and uninhabited continent, free from national ownership, faces challenges amidst global security threats and shifting geopolitical dynamics. In a pioneering venture, CBC’s Susan Ormiston, accompanied by her production team, embarked on a month-long expedition to Antarctica alongside Canadian climate scientists and the Royal Canadian Navy.
This unprecedented all-Canadian journey provided Ormiston and her crew with privileged access to the breathtaking landscapes, inquisitive penguins, and the demanding scientific research activities aboard the HMCS Margaret Brooke navigating through towering icebergs beyond the Antarctic Circle.
Their expedition was meticulously captured in a one-hour special program detailing the remarkable Canadian Antarctic mission. Titled “CBC in Antarctica,” the program is now accessible on the CBC News YouTube channel, offering viewers a glimpse into this historic expedition.
For those interested, the program can also be viewed on CBC News Network on Saturday, June 7 at 8 p.m. ET and Sunday, June 8 at 11 p.m. PT, CBC Gem starting Sunday, June 8 at 9 a.m. ET, CBC-TV on Sunday, June 8 at 8 p.m. local time, and via smart TV streaming from Saturday, June 7 onwards.
