A man driving a vehicle ended up in the hospital on Sunday morning after colliding with a traffic light, a hydro pole, and eventually the front of a residence on Adelaide Street south. According to London police, the driver was subsequently charged with impaired driving.
The crash, involving a single vehicle, caused a power outage in the vicinity of Hamilton Road, leading to the closure of several blocks on Adelaide Street. Firefighters spent the majority of the day fixing the live wires hanging over the road and sidewalk, a consequence of the snapped hydro line. Some residents were advised to stay indoors while the repairs were being carried out.
The street remained shut down for an extended period while the structural stability of the residence was evaluated and the area was cleared by London Hydro as per police reports. A home on Adelaide Street sustained significant damage from the impact of the vehicle. The exact cause of the accident remains unknown.
