Cheyann Peeteetuce wrapped up her testimony much like it started, stating she couldn’t remember the events surrounding Megan Gallagher’s death, despite pleading guilty to manslaughter in the case. During the trial of Roderick Sutherland, who denies charges of manslaughter, unlawful confinement, and desecration of human remains, Peeteetuce testified that she couldn’t recall why she had previously pleaded guilty.
Peeteetuce was called to testify by the Crown on the third day of the trial at Saskatoon Court of King’s Bench. She viewed a one-hour police interview recording in which she described Gallagher being tied up and assaulted in a garage by three men, including Sutherland. However, when questioned by the prosecution and defense, Peeteetuce either denied making the statements or claimed not to remember the specifics.
Earlier, Peeteetuce mentioned that she and Gallagher had only met once at the garage, where they drank and used drugs. She admitted to not paying attention to what happened to Gallagher that day and stated she couldn’t recall the duration of Gallagher’s presence in the garage.
Despite being prompted, Peeteetuce couldn’t remember the circumstances surrounding her guilty plea or identify Sutherland in the courtroom, even after his chair was repositioned for her view. The trial, overseen by Justice John Morrall, is scheduled to continue throughout the week.
