“Saskatchewan Braces for Weekend Weather Whiplash”

Share

Residents in southern and central Saskatchewan are advised to get ready for a significant weather change over the upcoming weekend, as rain, strong winds, and even possible snow are anticipated. The weather authority, Environment Canada, has issued a special weather alert for various regions, including Regina, Fort Qu’Appelle, Estevan, Weyburn, Yorkton, and Moosomin, as well as the areas surrounding Melfort and Nipawin. A low-pressure system is set to enter the province on Saturday night, bringing widespread rainfall with an estimated total of 30 to 60 millimeters expected by Monday afternoon.

Temperatures are forecasted to decrease by Sunday afternoon or evening, leading to a mix of rain and snow in certain locations. Consequently, there is a likelihood of snow accumulation overnight on Sunday. Alongside precipitation, the system will bring strong winds, with gusts potentially reaching up to 80 km/h in some provincial areas. Following the system’s passage, temperatures are projected to plummet into single digits for much of the upcoming week.

The exact trajectory of the system remains uncertain, which could result in a shift in the regions experiencing the heaviest rainfall. Additionally, the timing of the transition from rain to snow remains unclear, further adding to the uncertainty regarding potential snowfall amounts and locations. Residents are urged to stay updated on the latest weather forecasts and be prepared for changing weather conditions. For more information and updates, visit weather.gc.ca.
