Surrey police have reported that Kap’s Cafe, a local establishment owned by Indian celebrity Kapil Sharma, was once again targeted by gun violence in what appears to be a recurring pattern associated with extortion. The incident took place in the Newton area of Surrey on Thursday morning, with the cafe sustaining damage from bullets around 4 a.m. PT. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as staff were present during the shooting.
While the Surrey Police Service has not officially confirmed the motive behind the attack, spokesperson Ian MacDonald indicated that the incident bears resemblance to extortion-related activities. Investigations by the police and the Provincial Extortion Task Force are underway, following previous shooting incidents at Kap’s Cafe earlier this year.
The cafe was initially shot at in July shortly after its opening, followed by a second shooting in August. MacDonald mentioned the existence of an online video showing multiple shots fired at the cafe and claims from individuals associated with the Bishnoi gang taking responsibility for the recent attack.
The scene at Kap’s Cafe on Thursday morning was marked by police activity, with shattered windows and bullet holes visible. Local residents expressed concern over the repeated targeting of the cafe, with one resident expressing empathy for the owner, Kapil Sharma, a renowned comedian and TV host from India. The incident has raised security concerns in the community, with demands for enhanced measures to ensure public safety.
The police have noted a rise in extortion-related cases and shootings in Surrey this year, with a significant number of incidents involving South Asian communities. Authorities urge anyone with relevant information or footage related to the Kap’s Cafe shooting to contact the SPS non-emergency line or Crime Stoppers. The series of violent events has sparked calls for increased security measures and swift action against criminal activities in the region.
