Canada’s national futsal team gears up for the FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup with Lea Palacio and Esther Brossard leading the charge. The tournament, set to take place from Nov. 21 to Dec. 7 in Pasig City, Manila, will see Canada face tough opponents in Group B, including Spain, Thailand, and Colombia.

Spain, as the three-time winner of the UEFA Women’s Futsal Championship, poses a formidable challenge, alongside Thailand and Colombia, who have also showcased strong performances in their respective regional competitions. However, Canada’s impressive victory at the CONCACAF W Futsal Championship earlier this year in Guatemala has set the stage for their World Cup debut.

Securing their World Cup ticket by triumphing over Mexico in a thrilling penalty shootout, Canada clinched the championship by defeating Panama 8-2 in the final. Coach Alexandre Da Rocha expressed pride in the team’s qualification and aims to maintain a high standard of performance at the upcoming tournament.

Futsal, a fast-paced five-a-side indoor game played in two halves of 20 minutes each, will see Canada’s roster of 14 players, including key figures like Palacio and Brossard, compete for glory. The team is set to depart for the Philippines for a pre-tournament camp, with matches against Colombia, Thailand, and Spain lined up.

The tournament format includes four groups, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the knockout stage. Female futsal players have long advocated for a FIFA championship, with the inaugural Women’s Futsal World Cup marking a significant milestone in the sport’s development.

As the countdown to the FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup begins, Canada’s futsal team is poised to make a mark on the international stage, aiming to build on their recent success and showcase their talent against top-tier competition.
