Canada’s Félix Auger-Aliassime has secured a spot in the upcoming ATP Finals tournament after a series of qualifiers. The final decision hinged on the outcome of the Hellenic Championship tennis final, where Novak Djokovic of Serbia faced off against Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti. Djokovic emerged victorious with a hard-fought 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 win over Musetti, claiming his 101st ATP title and a record-breaking 72nd title on hard courts. However, Djokovic later withdrew from the ATP Finals in Turin, Italy, due to a shoulder injury.
Initially, Musetti needed a win to qualify for the ATP Finals ahead of Auger-Aliassime. With Djokovic’s withdrawal, Musetti now takes Djokovic’s spot in the tournament. The ATP Finals are scheduled to take place from Sunday to November 16, featuring a lineup that includes Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, Italy’s Jannik Sinner, Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton from the United States, Australia’s Alex de Minaur, and Germany’s Alexander Zverev.
Auger-Aliassime’s first group-stage match will be against Sinner, the current top-ranked player in the world. The two players last met in the Paris Open final, where Sinner emerged victorious with a 6-4, 7-6 (4) win to reclaim the top ranking.
