Share

The initial snowfall of the season arrived on Sunday following a period of morning rain in multiple areas. By 2:30 p.m. CST, a snowfall advisory was issued for Hwy 135, encompassing Pelican Narrows and Sandy Bay. According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), significant snowfall accompanied by blowing snow is anticipated on Sunday evening, with accumulations ranging from 15 to 30 cm by Monday afternoon. The heaviest snowfall is projected near the Manitoba border.

ECCC cautioned that visibility might decrease sporadically due to heavy snow in this region and suggested that individuals consider delaying non-essential travel until conditions improve. As of late Sunday morning, snowfall was reported in the town of Davidson, situated between Saskatoon and Regina. The Highway Hotline indicated that highways north of Regina towards the Humboldt area are partially covered with slush and snow.

ECCC’s latest weather update at 2:30 p.m. CST noted that Regina, Saskatoon, Lloydminster, Swift Current, Meadow Lake, and Prince Albert are currently experiencing light snowfall. All weather forecasts and road conditions are subject to change. For Sunday evening, most areas in Saskatchewan, excluding Highway 135, can expect light snowfall or a combination of snow and rain.

ECCC mentioned in a Sunday news release the potential for localized flooding in low-lying regions and advised preparedness for wintry conditions at higher elevations. Strong winds reaching 60 to 80 km/h are predicted to develop on Sunday afternoon. Individuals are encouraged to visit the ECCC Saskatchewan weather profile for the most up-to-date weather forecasts.
