Canadian athlete Sophia Howell secured a spot on the podium at the World Triathlon Cup for the first time by clinching third place in the sprint-distance event. Hailing from Airdrie, Alberta, Howell completed the swim, bike ride, and run in one hour, one minute, and 12 seconds in San Pedro de la Paz, Chile. Expressing her excitement, the 23-year-old mentioned she was pleasantly surprised by her achievement. Howell finished the race three seconds behind Jeanne Lehair from Luxembourg and nine seconds behind the winner, Miriam Casillas Garcia from Spain. Meanwhile, Emy Legault from L’Ile Perrot, Quebec, finished in 12th place. In the men’s category, Martin Sobey from Charlottetown was the highest-ranking Canadian, securing the 14th position.
