Blue Jays’ Lukes Returns Strong for ALCS Game 2

Share

Blue Jays outfielder Nathan Lukes returned to the starting lineup for Game 2 of the American League Championship Series against the Seattle Mariners. Lukes had exited Game 1 early due to a bruised knee sustained when he fouled a ball off his leg in a lengthy at-bat. Despite initial concerns, Lukes felt better after treatment and was cleared to play right field and bat second in the lineup for the game at Rogers Centre.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider confirmed Lukes’ return, mentioning that he was removed from the previous game due to difficulties with movement. Lukes’ medical tests came back normal, reassuring the team about his condition. Trey Yesavage was set to pitch for Toronto against Logan Gilbert, with outfielder Anthony Santander sidelined due to a lower back issue. Davis Schneider was named as Santander’s replacement in left field, and the lineup was adjusted accordingly.

The series between the Blue Jays and Mariners was set to move to Seattle for Games 3 and 4, followed by Game 5 if necessary. Potential further games in the series would bring the action back to Toronto. The Blue Jays are aiming to reach the World Series for the first time since their consecutive championships in 1993, marking their return to the ALCS after a five-year absence.
