A woman who was shot by an RCMP officer in the Halifax area has passed away due to her injuries, as confirmed by the province’s police watchdog on Wednesday. The incident took place following an RCMP response to a reported assault at a residence on Cedar Lane in Eastern Passage on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT), upon police arrival at the scene, they encountered a woman holding a knife who did not comply with commands to drop the weapon. Subsequently, officers used a stun gun, but the woman continued to advance with the knife. An officer then discharged their firearm, resulting in the woman being fatally wounded. No other individuals were harmed during the incident.
SIRT has initiated an investigation into the matter.
