A young girl, aged one, has been found unharmed after an Amber Alert was issued, but authorities are now searching for her father in connection with a deadly shooting in Brampton, Ontario. The Ontario Provincial Police initiated the alert at 5 p.m. and later rescinded it about two hours later. Constable Mandeep Khatra confirmed that the child is safe and in police custody, believed to have been left with relatives.
The whereabouts of the child were not disclosed by Khatra, but her 38-year-old father, who allegedly took her, is now sought in the fatal shooting of a woman earlier that day. The tragic incident occurred at a plaza parking lot near Queen Street E. and Airport Road around 2 p.m., where the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect reportedly fled the scene with the child in a vehicle. Khatra revealed that the case is likely related to an intimate partner situation, with the suspect considered armed and dangerous. He provided a description of the suspect, who is believed to have left the Niagara Region. The suspect is described as approximately five feet nine inches tall, 175 pounds, with hazel eyes, short brown hair, and a thin build. He was last seen wearing a dark hoodie and blue jeans, carrying a black crossbody bag.
Residents in the Crystal Beach area of Fort Erie were advised to secure their homes as the suspect was believed to have been in the vicinity, though later reports suggested he had left. Authorities have urged the public to avoid approaching the suspect or his vehicle and to contact 911 immediately if spotted. Additionally, investigators are requesting any individuals with relevant dashboard or surveillance footage or information to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
