The Canadian men’s alpine skiing team has been steadily improving in recent seasons, achieving success at world championships, securing medals, and claiming victories in prestigious events like the Kitzbuhel downhill. Head coach John Kucera sees this as just the beginning for the talented new generation of Canadian ski racers.

As they gear up for the World Cup season and the upcoming Winter Olympics in Italy, Kucera emphasized the team’s focus on podium performances. With several skiers like Jack Crawford, Cam Alexander, and Jeff Read consistently landing on podiums in recent years, the team is setting high expectations for themselves.

Crawford, who won Olympic bronze in the men’s alpine combined in 2022, has been a standout performer, clinching his first World Cup podium with a silver in super-G. Similarly, Alexander, who won a bronze at Kitzbuhel, has also been a strong contender with multiple World Cup podium finishes. Despite a knee injury last season, Alexander is determined to start his season strong at the upcoming World Cup event in Copper Mountain, Colo.

Jeff Read, following in his father Ken Read’s footsteps as a second-generation national team member, made his mark by winning a silver in the super-G. The team’s camaraderie and competitive spirit have been driving forces behind their success, reminiscent of past Canadian ski teams like the Crazy Canucks and Canadian Cowboys.

Looking ahead to the 2026 Winter Olympics in Bormio, Italy, the team is preparing for the challenging downhill course. Kucera emphasizes the need for adaptability as the Olympic course may differ from the familiar World Cup track in Bormio. Despite the uncertainties of alpine skiing, the Canadian team remains focused on podium finishes at the Olympics and throughout the World Cup season.

The team’s dedication and determination reflect their strong potential for success in the upcoming competitions. With a blend of seasoned veterans and promising newcomers, the Canadian men’s alpine skiing team is poised to make a mark on the global stage.
