A teenager from the Edmonton area is facing fresh charges after being subject to a terrorism peace bond due to suspected connections to an online network promoting violent extremism. The 15-year-old was arrested in May, with RCMP initiating peace bond proceedings under concerns of terrorism-related activities.
Authorities indicated their belief that the teenager was planning to engage in terrorism-related acts through the 764 online network, which preys on vulnerable children on gaming platforms such as Minecraft and Roblox, enticing them into private online conversations. The 764 network reportedly encourages youths to engage in harmful behaviors like sexual acts, self-harm, and animal torture, while promoting extreme ideological views that desensitize and radicalize children towards violence.
The recent actions by the police were prompted by what they described as “escalatory behavior in a February 2025 incident.” Through a peace bond, authorities can monitor individuals deemed at risk of committing crimes even without concrete evidence of an actual offense.
Following a forensic analysis of the teenager’s electronic devices, the latest charges include involvement in the activities of a terrorist group, promotion of hatred, making threats, and possession of child sexual abuse material. While the police have not disclosed further details about the teen due to legal constraints under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, it has been confirmed that the individual is male from previous court appearances.
The teenager remains in custody at the Edmonton Young Offender Centre, with a scheduled court appearance set for Friday.
