Kelowna authorities have reported the arrest and detention of an individual following a fire outbreak at Knox Mountain Park on Friday. Access to the park, situated in a residential vicinity near the city’s downtown area, was restricted by law enforcement when smoke and flames were detected on the mountainside. Both the police and fire department aided in escorting hikers off the mountain. Despite the presence of high winds posing a potential risk, emergency teams successfully subdued the fire by 4:45 p.m. PT and remained at the site for further monitoring.
Described as Kelowna’s largest natural park, Knox Mountain Park covers an area of 3.85 square kilometers just north of downtown, according to city officials. A controlled burning operation was carried out in the vicinity on October 16th.
