Canadian short track speed skater Will Dandjinou showcased his dominance at the men’s World Tour circuit in Gdansk, Poland. The Montreal skater secured victories in both the men’s 1,500 and 500 meter finals, leading the Canadian Ice Maples to a successful four-medal day at the Hala Olivia Arena. Dandjinou’s teammates, Courtney Sarault and Steven Dubois, claimed silver and bronze medals, respectively.
In the men’s 1,500m final, the 24-year-old Dandjinou crossed the finish line in two minutes and 24.153 seconds, outperforming Italians Thomas Nadalini and Pietro Sighel. Dubois, hailing from Terrebonne, Que., finished sixth in the final with a time of 2:24.834.
Reflecting on his success, Dandjinou expressed his satisfaction with his performance under challenging ice conditions. His victory streak continued in the men’s 500m final, where he clinched gold in 40.849 seconds. Xiaojun Lin from China took silver, while Dubois secured the bronze in 41.505 seconds.
Dandjinou emphasized the importance of team chemistry and podium presence, highlighting the impressive performance of his teammate, Dubois. These victories marked Dandjinou’s fourth and fifth gold medals of the season, solidifying his lead in the overall standings with 642 points.
Sarault also shone in the women’s 1,000m final, earning a silver medal with a time of 1:30.575. Despite challenging ice conditions, Sarault expressed her satisfaction with her performance and determination to continue the podium streak.
