The 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival has commenced, marking the start of almost a fortnight of excitement along the French Riviera as filmmakers and celebrities grace the red carpet for the festival’s opening ceremony and the premiere of the movie “The Electric Kiss.”
The festival will showcase a series of world premieres over 12 consecutive days, concluding on May 23 with the prestigious Palme d’Or award presentation, one of the most esteemed accolades in the film industry. Leading this year’s Cannes jury is South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook, accompanied by a panel including Stellan SkarsgÃ¥rd, Diego Céspedes, Laura Wandel, Demi Moore, Chloé Zhao, Isaach de Bankolé, and Ruth Negga.
Notable personalities scheduled to appear during the festival include Kristen Stewart, Barbra Streisand, Adam Driver, Javier Bardem, Michael Fassbender, Cate Blanchett, Rami Malek, and others. The event kicked off with the presence of model, TV host, and actor Heidi Klum at the opening ceremony.
Renowned filmmakers such as Pedro Almodóvar with “Bitter Christmas,” James Gray with “Paper Tiger,” Na Hong-jin with “Hope,” Pawel Pawlikowski with “Fatherland,” and Ryusuke Hamaguchi with “All of a Sudden” are set to unveil their latest works. Director Peter Jackson, honored this year with the Palme d’Or award, was also in attendance at the opening ceremony.
Various celebrities and industry figures, including Irish reality TV personality Maura Higgins, actor Elijah Wood with his wife Mette-Marie Kongsved, and actor Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, graced the red carpet with their presence in the midst of enthusiastic spectators attending the festival’s opening ceremony in Cannes, France.
