Anil Mohabir expressed his astonishment on Friday following his recent collaboration with Drake in launching the Toronto rapper’s latest music project. Mohabir played a key role in projecting an icy blue wave of light up the CN Tower in a visually striking display that accompanied the release of Drake’s triple-album drop. The event featured a vibrant fireworks show illuminating downtown Toronto’s waterfront.
The ambitious project involved meticulous planning and coordination, including collaboration with various teams and authorities such as the CN Tower, Transport Canada, and the City of Toronto. Mohabir, the founder of Studio AM, a renowned digital design studio in Toronto, led a team of around 300 individuals to bring the unique visual spectacle to life.
The projection utilized 75 projectors, each valued at approximately $200,000, with additional costs for lenses ranging from $25,000 to $100,000. The total equipment cost for the projectors alone amounted to an astounding $15 million. Mohabir described the moment when the projection was initiated as awe-inspiring, with everyone involved being taken aback by the stunning display.
In addition to the CN Tower projection, previous promotional activities for Drake’s album release included a live stream where Drake traversed the city in an “Iceman”-branded vehicle. Drake’s team orchestrated a series of attention-grabbing stunts leading up to the album launch, such as installing a massive ice block display in a downtown parking lot and filming explosive visuals at Downsview Park.
Mohabir emphasized Drake’s commitment to showcasing Canadian talent and uplifting the city of Toronto, noting the opportunities provided to local creatives. Reflecting on their collaborative efforts, Mohabir expressed gratitude for the chance to realize innovative ideas at a significant scale through Drake’s platform.
