In the last six decades, Israel has constructed settlements in the West Bank, a region considered by international law to be under Palestinian occupation. These settlements are widely regarded as illegal and have drawn strong condemnation from the Canadian government. Reports have documented instances of violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians whose homes are demolished to make way for these settlements.
A recent investigation by CBC’s the fifth estate has revealed that certain Canadian charities have been indirectly financing organizations, including the Israeli military, which actively support the growth of these controversial settlements. Surprisingly, these donations are accompanied by tax receipts, despite contravening the regulations governing registered Canadian charities.
Host Ioanna Roumeliotis delves into the findings of her team’s investigative work, shedding light on how these contributions are viewed by critics as perpetuating violence that poses a threat to peace and the establishment of a Palestinian state.
