Five-year-old Axel Luchsinger experienced a remarkable day at school when he was informed over the intercom that he had broken a world record. The Guinness World Record for the most stairs descended by a slinky was achieved by Axel, his father Joe, and mother Christelle Luchsinger from Connecticut, surpassing the previous record by 23 stairs.
Axel, with a keen interest in record-breaking feats, was drawn to slinkies. The family’s journey to break the record involved testing various slinkies before selecting a plastic multicolored one. During a trip to Ohio in May 2025, they attempted the record at Otterbein University after encountering challenges at a dam location.
The family collaborated with each member having a specific role – Christelle as the launcher, Axel counting the stairs, and Joe retrieving the slinky after each descent. Despite initial setbacks and an approaching storm, they persevered until Christelle achieved a successful run. The family captured the moment on video, and after almost a year, they received official certification for the record in March.
Christelle and Axel expressed excitement over the achievement, with Axel already setting his sights on breaking another record involving a Galilean cannon. Joe emphasized the importance of finding time for play as adults, highlighting the joy and dedication they experienced throughout the record-breaking journey.
