“Montreal Doctor’s Asset Protection Scheme Uncovered”

Share

A former Montreal doctor convicted of sexual assault and accused of assaulting seven additional women reportedly took steps to protect his assets before his suicide, as per two lawsuits filed in Montreal. Stephan Probst, the ex-head of nuclear medicine at the Jewish General Hospital, allegedly assaulted two women known as A and G, who are now seeking over $300,000 in damages from his estate. The lawsuits claim Probst transferred two properties to his partner, Wendy Devera, in an apparent effort to hinder potential lawsuits from his victims.

Probst and Devera were previously convicted of sexually assaulting an unnamed woman in August 2024. Subsequently, Probst faced new charges for allegedly assaulting seven more women between 2003 and 2020. A and G disclosed in their suits that they decided to come forward to authorities after learning about a similar case involving a victim referred to as X in the media.

Devera was recently sentenced to two years minus a day, with half of the term to be served under house arrest, for her involvement in X’s assault. The presiding judge indicated that Devera might not have committed the offense if not for her association with Probst. Probst passed away by suicide in June 2025 before being sentenced for the 2020 assault against X or facing trial for the additional charges.

Property records show that a month before his death, Probst transferred two properties to Devera for no cost. Devera subsequently sold one of the properties for $470,000, while retaining ownership of the other, a luxury downtown condo. A and G allege in their legal complaints that these property transfers were orchestrated to prevent them from receiving compensation from Probst’s estate.

A’s lawsuit asserts that Probst’s asset transfers were a deliberate ploy to defraud creditors. Business records reveal that Probst appointed Devera as a director of his medical services firm shortly before his death.

In her lawsuit, A detailed how she initially connected with Devera through an online dating app in 2018, leading to encounters at Probst’s residences where she claims Probst sexually assaulted her while she was intimate with Devera. A eventually cut ties with the couple after witnessing inappropriate behavior at a gathering in 2020 and reported the incidents to the police upon realizing the gravity of the situation.

G, the other plaintiff, alleges that she was in a relationship with Probst from 2012 and accuses him of drugging and sexually assaulting her on multiple occasions. G’s lawsuit does not implicate Devera in any sexual misconduct. Both A and G describe experiencing severe psychological distress and seeking emergency help due to the alleged assaults.

While the claims in the lawsuits have yet to be litigated, efforts to obtain comments from Devera’s legal representative have been unsuccessful.
