Mike Miller’s coaching career spans close to three decades, starting from a small town in Pennsylvania and leading him to Berlin. Throughout his journey, he has been involved with NCAA Division II schools and NFL teams, although he had not held a head coaching position until recently. The Toronto Argonauts of the CFL announced Miller as their 46th head coach on Tuesday.

Having previously served as the Argonauts’ quarterbacks coach since 2022, Miller expressed his commitment to maintaining his authentic approach despite his new role. He emphasized the importance of honesty and collaboration with players during a press conference at BMO Field.

In addition to his head coaching responsibilities, Miller will also take on the roles of offensive coordinator and play-caller for the team in 2026, succeeding Ryan Dinwiddie. Dinwiddie, who led the Argos to two Grey Cup victories alongside Miller, recently departed for the Ottawa Redblacks.

Miller’s track record of success in developing quarterbacks played a significant role in his appointment as head coach, according to Argonauts GM Michael (Pinball) Clemons. Under Miller’s guidance, quarterbacks like Chad Kelly and Nick Arbuckle achieved notable accolades and performance milestones.

Following a challenging 2025 season where the Argonauts missed the playoffs with a 5-13 record, Miller and Clemons expressed gratitude towards Dinwiddie for his contributions. Miller acknowledged Dinwiddie’s role in providing him with opportunities throughout their shared journey, dating back to their time together in Montreal.

Beginning his coaching career as a running backs coach at Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh in 1997, Miller has since garnered experience across various levels of football before landing his first head coaching position with the Argonauts. He expressed gratitude for the support received from individuals such as health care workers and former mentor Bill Cowher, a Hall of Fame coach.

With a diverse coaching background that includes roles as a receivers coach and stints in NFL Europe, Miller’s experience culminated in a Super Bowl appearance with the Arizona Cardinals in 2009.
