Prince Edward Island is set to host its largest television production ever this summer. The province is investing $5 million as a rebate for the adaptation of Carley Fortune’s bestseller, “This Summer Will Be Different,” into a 10-episode series. The filming will take place in P.E.I. and Toronto.
During the announcement in Victoria, Robin Neinstein, Netflix Canada’s director of production management, emphasized the unique character of P.E.I. in the story. He stated that the island is not just a backdrop but a vital element of the narrative. The filming is expected to create 75 job positions, including production assistants, painters, and caterers.
Film P.E.I.’s executive director, Rob Riselli, expressed enthusiasm about showcasing the beauty of the island through this production. Premier Rob Lantz described the project as a significant boost for Prince Edward Island’s arts and culture sector and an excellent economic opportunity.
The production, which will spotlight P.E.I., is seen as a pivotal step in enhancing the province’s presence in the film industry. Minister of Economic Development Jenn Redmond hailed the collaboration with Netflix as an investment in P.E.I.’s arts and culture industry on a global scale.
The Opposition had raised concerns about the project’s uncertainty, but Premier Lantz confirmed that the production is moving forward without any doubts. The exact release date for the series, viewed by millions of Netflix users worldwide, is yet to be announced.
