“Spate of Suspected Arson Attacks Rattles Happy Valley-Goose Bay”

Share

Happy Valley-Goose Bay’s fire chief expressed concern over a series of suspected arson incidents that damaged four different buildings within a few hours on Friday night. Fire Chief Brad Butler described the situation as unprecedented, with fires occurring at multiple locations simultaneously. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is currently investigating the incidents, which started late in the evening on Palliser Crescent and continued through the early hours of the morning on Cabot Street, Hamilton River Road, and an office building.

Chief Butler noted that the fires raised suspicions when firefighters arrived at the second location, an abandoned house on Cabot Street. Despite the challenges of responding to fires in different parts of the town, approximately 12 to 15 firefighters managed to attend each incident. The RCMP believes the fires were deliberately set, causing severe damage to each building, with one residential property being completely destroyed by the flames. Fortunately, no one was harmed as the buildings were unoccupied at the time.

Authorities are seeking information and surveillance footage from various areas where the incidents occurred. Happy Valley-Goose Bay Mayor Bert Pomeroy urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with the RCMP by providing any relevant information they may have. The community is on high alert following the incidents, emphasizing the importance of collaboration to ensure safety and security.
