Misha Pavelick’s former partner described feeling a tense atmosphere when she introduced her new boyfriend at a graduation party, where Pavelick was fatally stabbed. Testifying at the trial of the individual charged with second-degree murder in Pavelick’s death on May 21, 2006, at a campground near Regina Beach, the ex-girlfriend recounted the events. The trial, taking place at Regina Court of King’s Bench, involves a now 36-year-old defendant, with both parties granted anonymity under the Youth Criminal Justice Act due to their age at the time.

According to the ex-girlfriend, Pavelick had expressed a desire to confront her new boyfriend, Andrew Perkins, prior to the tragic incident. As the group prepared to leave the party, Pavelick confronted them, leading to an altercation during which he struck Perkins with a bottle, sparking a physical altercation between the two men. The witness managed to distance herself from the scuffle but recalled seeing Pavelick being attacked by a group of individuals, including the accused.

During cross-examination, defense attorney Adam Hitchcock questioned the ex-girlfriend’s claim of witnessing the accused assaulting Pavelick, which she affirmed. She recounted seeing Pavelick rise from the ground and move away from the scene in distress. Despite initially being unaware of the stabbing, the witness described Pavelick’s deteriorating condition and efforts to help him before emergency services were called. Tragically, Pavelick succumbed to his injuries, as revealed to the witness following his hospitalization.

The trial, now in its second week, is set to resume on Wednesday, continuing to shed light on the events leading to Pavelick’s untimely death.
