Anna Bargman scored her first PWHL goal, and Kristyna Kaltounkova netted the decisive goal to lead the New York Sirens to a thrilling 4-3 victory over the Montreal Victoire in Newark, N.J. Bargman’s goal in the waning moments of the first period leveled the score after Laura Stacey opened the scoring for Montreal just 3 minutes and 47 seconds into the game. The rookie notched her first PWHL point in the Sirens’ previous game against the Goldeneyes. She was selected in the fifth round of this year’s draft by New York from Yale, where she ranks fourth in all-time goals for the Bulldogs.
Kristin O’Neill added her second goal of the season in the second period for New York (5-0-0-5), but Marie-Philip Poulin, the captain of the Victoire, responded with a power-play goal. Kaltounkova extended her scoring streak to four games by putting New York ahead 3-2.
Paetyn Levis extended the Sirens’ lead in the third period after receiving a pass from Sarah Fillier. Montreal (3-0-1-4) pulled goaltender Sandra Abstreiter for an extra attacker in the closing minutes. With 24 seconds left, Natalie Mlynkova redirected Abby Roque’s shot for a goal, but Montreal ran out of time to find an equalizer.
Kayle Osborne, the Sirens’ goaltender, had a standout performance, making a career-best 42 saves, while Abstreiter stopped 17 shots for Montreal.
In the next fixtures, the Victoire will host Minnesota on Sunday, while the Sirens will travel to Toronto on January 6.
