Actor and social activist Danny Glover, known for his role as a laid-back police officer in the popular Lethal Weapon series, has disclosed that he is battling Alzheimer’s disease. The four-time Emmy Award nominee, set to celebrate his 80th birthday on July 22, shared with NBC’s Today and People magazine that he was diagnosed with the degenerative memory disorder three years ago.

Expressing his struggle to come to terms with the diagnosis, Glover mentioned to People, “I’m still grappling with the various aspects of it. There are instances that reassure me of my recollection abilities. However, there are memories that will forever stay with me.”

Alzheimer’s, the most prevalent type of dementia affecting over six million individuals in the United States and countless others globally, impacts more than 750,000 people in Canada, as per Statistics Canada data.

Honored with four Emmy Award nominations and a prestigious Oscar in 2022, Glover has been recognized by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and Black Entertainment Television, in addition to receiving accolades from the Screen Actors Guild. Furthermore, he served as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Development Program between 1998 and 2004, focusing on addressing poverty, diseases, and fostering economic growth in Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
