Alanis Morissette has filed a lawsuit in California against her former tour manager, accusing her of engaging in a deliberate blackmail scheme aimed at implicating the Canadian singer-songwriter in drug trafficking. The lawsuit alleges that Keren Urinov threatened to report Morissette to British authorities for drug trafficking unless Morissette agreed to hire her as a tour director for a 15-year term and provide substantial compensation.
Urinov, who previously worked for Live Nation’s Israeli operations, was hired as a temporary tour manager for Morissette’s world tour in 2025. An incident occurred in July 2025 when, while traveling from the U.K. to Spain for a concert, Urinov was allegedly arrested at the airport after a bag she claimed ownership of was flagged by a British Border Force official. The bag was said to contain marijuana and xylazine, a non-opioid animal tranquilizer. Urinov reportedly admitted ownership of the bag and drugs, presenting her Israeli medical marijuana license to authorities, leading to her release.
Following the tour’s conclusion, Urinov allegedly sent a series of threatening letters to Morissette and her legal team, demanding a 15-year contract with substantial income and benefits as well as assistance in obtaining a U.S. work visa. The lawsuit also highlights instances where Morissette felt Urinov’s management of the tour was subpar, citing costly errors and undisclosed criminal history that could hinder travel and visa acquisition.
Morissette stated that she was left with no choice but to take legal action against Urinov, emphasizing her refusal to be coerced into succumbing to blackmail demands. The lawsuit indicates that Morissette is seeking a trial by jury. Efforts to reach Urinov and Morissette’s representatives for comments have been unsuccessful.
