An examination report has revealed that Nykera Brown, aged 20, succumbed to a single gunshot wound.
During Andrew Rosenfeldt’s trial for second-degree murder in connection to Brown’s passing, forensic pathologist Dr. Shaun Ladham, who conducted the examination, testified on Thursday.
Dr. Ladham also mentioned that at the time of her demise on November 15, 2022, Brown had methamphetamine, cocaine, and alcohol in her system.
Responding to a query from Crown prosecutor Elizabeth Addabor, Dr. Ladham stated, “[The substances] might have impacted her behavior, but not the cause of death. She would have perished within minutes. The wound was fatal.”

The autopsy findings indicated no defensive or offensive wounds influencing her death. The fatal shot, originating from a gun positioned beneath her chin, struck her head.
Dr. Ladham displayed several autopsy images, including one showing various superficial scars on her left forearm, some healed and some fresh.

Under interrogation from defense attorney Chris Murphy, Dr. Ladham suggested that the marks could indicate self-inflicted harm.
Two intact small-caliber bullets were discovered in Brown’s front jean pocket. Dr. Ladham retrieved a similar bullet from her brain and stated it was “possible” that it was the same caliber.
Using a tape measure, Murphy demonstrated a 40-centimeter length equivalent to the gun found at the scene, placing it under his own chin. He inquired whether it was physically feasible for Brown to have discharged the weapon herself.
“Is it conceivable that she did it? Yes,” replied Dr. Ladham.
The trial before Justice Heather MacMillan-Brown at Saskatoon Court of King’s Bench will continue on Friday.
