Tom O’Brien, a prominent figure in business and a former mayor of Stephenville, Newfoundland, has passed away. O’Brien assumed the mayorship of Stephenville in 2001 and held the position until 2017. Following a hiatus from municipal affairs, he was re-elected as a council member in March 2024.
Less than two weeks ago, O’Brien secured another term on the council, garnering more votes than the newly appointed mayor, Bob Byrnes. He passed away on his 68th birthday, as confirmed by a town spokesperson.
