“Blind llama finds perfect companion in talkative sheep”

Share

Laura Greaves sought a gentle ewe in Saskatchewan through social media to keep her blind llama company. Maple, the llama, had unique needs, and Peeps, a talkative sheep from Eyebrow, was deemed a suitable companion due to her vocal nature. Greaves, an equine veterinarian experienced in caring for special-needs animals, had Maple live with her on an acreage near Regina. Maple’s health issues, including eye problems, led to a challenging surgery to remove both eyes. Greaves utilized sound cues to help Maple navigate her surroundings, but the llama struggled initially. To alleviate Maple’s loneliness and anxiety, Greaves searched for a suitable companion, and Peeps, the escape artist sheep, proved to be an ideal match. The duo is forming a strong bond, providing emotional support to each other as they navigate their new environment. The long-term goal is for Maple and Peeps to join the other animals on the farm.
