Britney Spears has recently checked herself into a substance abuse treatment center following her arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. The 44-year-old pop icon voluntarily entered the facility, as confirmed by her spokesperson in correspondence with The Associated Press.
The incident occurred on March 5 when California Highway Patrol officers responded to reports of a BMW driving recklessly on U.S. 101 in Ventura County near the Los Angeles County border. Spears, a local resident, underwent field sobriety tests and was subsequently arrested for suspected driving under the influence of a mix of alcohol and drugs. After a brief detainment at a county jail, she was later released.
The case was handed over to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office on March 23 for further review, with a decision on potential charges expected before her scheduled court appearance on May 4. A representative at the time condemned Spears’ actions as “completely inexcusable” and emphasized the necessity for substantial changes in her life.
Having largely stepped back from her music career, Britney Spears has not embarked on a concert tour in almost eight years and has not released a new album for nearly a decade. Following the termination of a court-mandated conservatorship lasting almost 14 years in 2021, she regained autonomy over her personal and financial affairs. In 2023, she published a highly successful memoir, titled “The Woman in Me.”
The conservatorship was established shortly after Spears underwent a month-long rehabilitation program in California in 2007, marking a turbulent period in her life.
