Nearly four years ago, Sokvin Vann found herself stuck in a routine, feeling uninspired. At the suggestion of her brother, she turned to her passion for K-pop and the globally renowned boy band, BTS. Following her brother’s advice, Vann established BTS Army Toronto, a local fan club that organizes gatherings, meet-ups, and activities to unite fans of the South Korean music group.

Tragically, Vann’s brother passed away shortly after she founded BTS Army Toronto. Despite her grief, the determined 43-year-old continued to expand the fan club, which now boasts a dedicated team of around 10 individuals and hosts various events, giveaways, fundraisers, and initiatives to support local Korean businesses.

As BTS prepares for their highly anticipated return to Toronto after more than a decade, Vann, together with her 24-year-old son Jordan, is excited about the upcoming concerts at Rogers Stadium. The fan club has become a tight-knit community, fostering friendships and connections through a shared love for music and BTS.

Known for their devoted fandom, BTS fans, also known as the army, have an in-depth knowledge of the band’s history, members, and songs, using terms like “army” and “bias” to describe their favorite group members. Vann attributes this passionate following to BTS’s meaningful music, addressing themes like mental health, self-love, and personal growth through their lyrics and artistic expressions.

Prior to the current tour, BTS had been on a hiatus as each member fulfilled mandatory military service. The Toronto stop is the only Canadian destination on their global tour, spanning 88 shows across 34 cities in 23 countries until March 2027.

BTS’s popularity has skyrocketed since their debut in 2013, with milestones like their chart-topping English track “Dynamite” in 2020. Vann, who has attended multiple BTS concerts in the U.S., is eager to witness the group perform in her hometown, especially after previous cancellations due to the pandemic.

Fans like Aira Uy, who had tickets to the canceled 2020 show, are thrilled for the upcoming performances. The City of Toronto has even agreed to temporarily rename a portion of Yonge Street to “BTS Boulevard” in honor of the band’s visit.

Excitement is palpable as fans flock to the official BTS merchandise pop-up store on Bloor Street, stocking up on concert essentials and memorabilia. With anticipation building for the concerts, Vann’s BTS Army Toronto is gearing up for special events and activities to enhance the fan experience during the tour.

Looking forward to the unique concert setup at Rogers Stadium, Vann is eager to see which surprise song BTS will perform in Toronto. Despite the inevitable post-concert blues, Vann believes the concert experience will leave fans feeling grateful and connected, enriching their journey in life.

The BTS community eagerly awaits the upcoming concerts, ready to immerse themselves in the unforgettable experience alongside their favorite K-pop stars.
