The Carleton Ravens broke a five-game losing streak in the Panda Game by defeating the Gee-Gees 20-14 in the 56th edition of the rivalry at TD Place on Sunday. This annual clash between the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees and Carleton Ravens is a significant event on the fall calendar for the cross-town rivals, drawing more than 20,000 fans to Lansdowne Park.

Prior to the game, students distributed leaflets, and authorities visited residents to inform them about the upcoming festivities, as the event has historically involved lively fan celebrations. The Ottawa Police Service and bylaw officers will have a strong presence in various areas over the weekend to ensure public safety.

In past years, post-game celebrations have been marred by rowdy behavior, vandalism, and violence, with incidents like vehicles being overturned and multiple hospitalizations. The first Panda Game took place in 1955 and was named after a stuffed panda named Pedro, later replaced by a bronze bear. After a hiatus, the tradition was revived in 2013 with the introduction of a new aluminum panda trophy.

Despite its colorful history, the event has faced challenges due to unruly fan behavior, with instances like a railing collapse in 1987 leading to numerous injuries. Special policies are in place at TD Place to manage alcohol consumption during the game, including limits on drink purchases. The Panda Game has seen record attendance, with a sellout crowd of 24,600 in 2019.
