Carly Simon has opened up about her recent silence, attributing it to her battle with Parkinson’s disease and basal cell carcinoma. The renowned singer, known for hits like “You’re So Vain” and “Nobody Does It Better,” shared that her health struggles began with arthritis in her knees and hip, leading to multiple replacement surgeries and eventually a Parkinson’s diagnosis after a thorough evaluation at the Mayo Clinic.
In a statement released on Monday, the 83-year-old singer-songwriter expressed gratitude for the concern shown by fans during her time of silence. She described the challenges of living with Parkinson’s and the unpredictable nature of the disease, noting how it affects her daily life and energy levels.
Additionally, Simon underwent treatment for basal cell carcinoma on her face, which altered her appearance and made her more self-conscious about being seen in public. Despite these setbacks, she is currently working on a new album titled “Comes in Waves,” emphasizing the healing power of music in her life.
Acknowledging that Parkinson’s has changed her pace and reliance on others, Simon remains resilient, stating that she is still actively engaged in her music career. While she does not view her condition as a blessing, she is embracing the journey of learning to live with it, emphasizing her continued presence and determination.
