Christina Black’s team had a slow start at the Montana’s Canadian Curling Trials. However, they are now in contention to represent Canada at the Milan Cortina Olympics. The team from Halifax Curling Club surprised Kerri Einarson with a 6-3 victory in the women’s semifinal, setting up a final match against Rachel Homan.

“I don’t really have any words,” Black expressed. “It was awesome.”

In the men’s semifinal, Matt Dunstone’s Winnipeg team triumphed over Mike McEwen’s Saskatoon squad with a score of 9-5. Dunstone will face Brad Jacobs’ Calgary-based rink in the men’s final.

Black’s team broke a 3-3 tie by scoring three crucial points in the ninth end, leading to Einarson running out of rocks in the 10th. Einarson, a four-time national champion, struggled throughout the game to generate offense.

Despite initial setbacks, Black’s team rallied with four wins in five games to advance to the playoffs. They maintained a strong performance, securing a spot in the finals. Black’s team showcased exceptional play, with Black leading the way with a 90 percent overall throw accuracy.

Excitement builds as Black and Homan prepare for a best-of-three showdown to determine Canada’s representative in Cortina. The competition kicks off at Scotiabank Centre on Friday.

The partisan crowd, energized by Black’s team’s performance, cheered on every shot made. The players capitalized on the positive atmosphere, keeping Einarson’s team on the defensive for much of the match.

In the men’s semifinal, Dunstone displayed skillful play, securing a lead over McEwen to clinch the victory. The men’s and women’s final matches are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, with potential deciding games on Sunday. The Winter Games are set to commence on Feb. 4.
