Coco Gauff Triumphs in Three-Set Thriller at China Open

French Open champion Coco Gauff had a challenging match against Canadian player Leylah Fernandez at the China Open in Beijing. Gauff managed to secure a hard-fought victory in three sets, with the final scoreline reading 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. Despite facing difficulties in the second set and struggling to close out the match in the third, Gauff eventually broke Fernandez in the decisive 12th game to secure her spot in the third round.

Gauff, who is currently ranked third globally, will now prepare to face Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic, seeded 16th, in the upcoming WTA 1000-series tournament match. In other matches held on Sunday, Eva Lys defeated Elena Rybakina 6-3, 1-6, 6-4, while American McCartney Kessler was leading Barbora Krejcikova 1-6, 7-5, 3-0 before Krejcikova retired from the match.

The tournament is running alongside an ATP 500 men’s event, where second-seeded Alexander Zverev made a comeback from a break down in the final set to beat Corentin Moutet 7-5, 3-6, 6-3. Zverev is now set to face Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinals, with Medvedev defeating Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-3, 6-3 in his match.

Italian player Lorenzo Musetti, who recently issued an apology to Chinese fans, had a successful straight-sets victory over Adrian Mannarino with a score of 6-3, 6-3. Learner Tien also secured a win against Flavio Cobolli 6-3, 6-2, setting up a quarterfinal clash with the ninth-ranked Musetti.

The China Open continues to showcase thrilling matches across both the women’s and men’s tournaments, with top players displaying their skills and determination on the court.
