Disney+ Canada Raises Prices for Streaming Packages

Share

Disney+ in Canada is increasing its prices for its streaming packages starting in November. The standard high-definition subscription will see a $3 hike to $15.99 per month, while the premium 4K package will rise by $1 to $16.99 per month. The cost of the ad-supported standard subscription will remain at $8.99 a month.

This price adjustment aligns with similar increases in the United States and the United Kingdom as streaming companies aim to promote ad-supported options for additional revenue. Other platforms like Netflix and Apple TV Plus have also raised their prices this year.

In a move to better align with global markets, Disney+ is transitioning from its Star branding to Hulu in international markets, including Canada. This change will not impact the content selection on the platform.

Last month, Disney+ faced a backlash from consumers following a controversy involving Jimmy Kimmel’s comments on the assassination of Charlie Kirk. The incident sparked debates on freedom of speech.

Overall, these pricing adjustments and rebranding efforts by Disney+ reflect the evolving landscape of streaming services and their strategies to cater to a wider audience while maximizing revenue opportunities.
