Dolly Parton’s remarkable journey from humble beginnings to stardom has not only inspired her songwriting but has also become the basis for various creative endeavors such as a theme park, a podcast, and now a musical set to hit Broadway later this year.

Titled Dolly: A True Original Musical, the production promises to authentically narrate Dolly’s life story in her own words, intertwined with the songs that have been pivotal in shaping her experiences. In a video announcement, the 80-year-old icon assured viewers that the musical will delve into her genuine origins, struggles, triumphs, and personal revelations.

Featuring a mix of new tracks specially composed for the show and some of Dolly’s classic hits like “I Will Always Love You,” “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors,” and “9 to 5,” the musical is scheduled to kick off in New York City on December 7 this year, running through November 21, 2027.

Expressing her excitement, Dolly described the forthcoming Broadway debut as a long-held dream coming to fruition. With a legendary career spanning almost seven decades, Dolly Parton, a prolific songwriter with over 3,000 compositions under her belt and more than 100 million album sales worldwide, holds esteemed positions in both the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Country Music Hall of Fame.

The musical initially premiered in Nashville last summer to a sold-out six-week run at the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts. Director Bartlett Sher expressed his awe at the profound connection audiences have with Dolly, noting how mentioning her name sparks fond memories of inspiration and joy she has brought to countless fans.

Emphasizing that the show will unveil a raw and unfiltered side of Dolly, beyond the glitz and glamour associated with her persona, the production aims to showcase the depth of her life experiences. Tickets for the show will be available for public purchase starting Friday, July 10, through the official website.
