Saturday marks the final opportunity for voters to participate in the Elmwood-East Kildonan byelection. Here are the essential details for voters before they head to the polls.
The byelection was prompted by the passing of Councillor Jason Schreyer in April, leaving a vacant seat. Seven candidates are in the race to succeed Schreyer, offering pledges to address road and infrastructure repairs, enhance public safety, and revive community programs.
Additionally, there are two school trustee elections occurring in other parts of the city simultaneously. In Louis Riel School Division Ward 3 (southeast Winnipeg and part of the rural municipality of Ritchot), three school trustee candidates are vying for the position. In Pembina Trails School Division Ward 1 (southwest Winnipeg and part of the rural municipality of Headingley), nine candidates are competing.
Polls for all three byelections opened at 8 a.m. on Saturday and are scheduled to close at 8 p.m.
Residents can locate their designated polling station using the information provided on their voters’ notice, the City of Winnipeg website, or by contacting 311. Eligible voters must present valid government-issued identification, such as a driver’s license or Manitoba health card. Alternatively, two documents showcasing the individual’s name and current address will be accepted.
