The show “Heated Rivalry” is adding more talent to its cast for the upcoming second season. The Canadian-produced hockey drama gained global popularity in its first season, leading to the emergence of its main stars – Hudson Williams, Connor Storrie, and François Arnaud.
The new additions to the cast revealed on Thursday include Ukrainian-American actress Milla Jovovich, known for her roles in “Resident Evil” and “The Fifth Element.” Kevin Zegers, hailing from Woodstock, Ont., and recognized for his work in “Gossip Girl” and “Transamerica,” joins the team along with Paul Gross, a prominent figure in Canadian film and television.
The series, based on Rachel Reid’s “Game Changers” books, depicts the hidden romance between two competitive ice hockey players, Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov. Paul Gross will portray hockey league commissioner Roger Crowell, while Kevin Zegers is set to play Coach Wiebe of the Ottawa Centaurs, Rozanov’s team in the upcoming season. Milla Jovovich will take on the role of Dr. Galina Molchalina, a therapist aiding Rozanov.
In addition to the new cast members, familiar faces from Season 1, such as Robbie G.K., Sophie Nélisse, Christina Chang, and Dylan Walsh, are set to reprise their roles. The show also welcomes a range of Canadian talent for the second season, including Charlie Gillespie, Daniel Diemer, Emily Hampshire, and Priyanka.
Emily Hampshire, who stars in the series, expressed her excitement for being a part of “Heated Rivalry,” comparing its success to that of “Schitt’s Creek.” Despite the show’s popularity, it is not eligible for this year’s Primetime Emmys but has received accolades at the Canadian Screen Awards.
Filming for the second season commenced on August 17, with a scheduled release on Crave in Spring 2027.
