Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek secured a victory over Yuan Yue with a score of 6-0, 6-3 at the China Open in Beijing, advancing to the third round and setting a notable record on the WTA Tour. The WTA announced that Swiatek marked a milestone by becoming the first player to achieve 25 or more wins at WTA-1000 events for three consecutive seasons with her recent triumph.

Seeded at the top, Swiatek, who recently triumphed at the Korea Open in Seoul, boasts an impressive record of six Grand Slam singles titles, including four French Open victories and one U.S. Open win. In other matches at the Beijing event, fourth-seeded Mirra Andreeva outplayed Zhu Lin with a 6-2, 6-2 victory, while American Emma Navarro secured a win against Elena-Gabriel Ruse with a score of 6-3, 7-6 (0).

Naomi Osaka initially took the lead in her second-round match, but Aliaksandra Sasnovich staged a comeback, ultimately winning 1-6, 6-4, 6-2. Emma Raducanu was slated to compete later in the day, and a match between Canada’s Leylah Fernandez and American Coco Gauff was set for Sunday as a round of 32 showdown.

The China Open is running concurrently with an ATP 500 men’s tournament, where Jannik Sinner advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating Terence Atmane 6-4, 5-7, 6-0. Sinner, who recently faced a loss to Carlos Alcaraz in the U.S. Open final, displayed a dominant performance in his first-round match against Marin Cilic, only conceding four games.
