Canadian freestyle skier Julien Viel secured the bronze medal in the men’s competition during the first leg of the World Cup moguls season held in Ruka, Finland. Hailing from Mont-Sainte-Anne, Quebec, Viel earned a score of 79.30 in the second men’s event, marking his fourth World Cup medal achievement. The gold was claimed by Australia’s Matt Graham with 81.72 points, closely followed by Japan’s Ikuma Horishima at 80.58.
Renowned skier Mikaël Kingsbury from Deux-Montagnes, Quebec, opted out of the competition on Monday after withdrawing from Sunday’s men’s event prior to the small final due to a groin injury. Kingsbury, boasting an impressive 99 career World Cup victories, expressed his health concerns during a pre-event press conference.
In the women’s event, Jakara Anthony of Australia dominated with a score of 79.89, leading the pack ahead of Americans Olivia Giaccio (78.64) and Jaelin Kauf (78.08). Berkley Brown from Aurora, Ontario, emerged as the top Canadian performer with a score of 67.59 points.
