Former Canada women’s team head coach Kenneth Heiner-Moller has been appointed as the new sporting director of national teams at Canada Soccer, taking on a key leadership role within the organization.
In his new position, Heiner-Moller will oversee the management of Canada Soccer’s national teams and high-performance programs, reporting directly to CEO Kevin Blue. National team coaches Jesse Marsch and Casey Stoney will report to Heiner-Moller, creating a structured hierarchy within Canada Soccer’s leadership.
Expressing enthusiasm for Heiner-Moller’s return, Blue highlighted the technical expertise and global experience that the 55-year-old brings to the role. He emphasized the importance of strengthening Canada Soccer’s sporting structure in preparation for upcoming challenges, including the management of post-World Cup growth.
Heiner-Moller, who recently served as the technical director of San Diego FC, is expected to transition to a full-time engagement with Canada Soccer in the summer. His appointment aligns well with Canada’s upcoming role as a co-host of the World Cup, providing valuable insights from his experience at major tournaments like the Euro 2020 hosted by Denmark.
Having previously worked with the Danish Football Association, Heiner-Moller’s background in coach education and performance aligns closely with his new responsibilities at Canada Soccer. His tenure as Canada’s head coach saw significant achievements, including qualifying for the Women’s World Cup and the Tokyo Olympics.
Transitioning smoothly from his coaching role, Heiner-Moller’s return to Canada is motivated by personal reasons, including rejoining his family in Vancouver. His wife, Anja Heiner-Moller, is a successful coach leading the Vancouver Rise team, adding a familial connection to Kenneth’s professional endeavors.
With a strong foundation in soccer leadership and a proven track record of success, Heiner-Moller’s appointment signals a strategic move by Canada Soccer to further elevate its national teams and high-performance initiatives under his guidance.
