The Kings Country Memorial Hospital in Montague will have an early closure of its emergency department on Wednesday due to increased patient demands and a shortage of staff. Health P.E.I. announced that the ER will shut down at 6:30 p.m. and is set to resume operation by 8 a.m. on Thursday.
This decision was made to address the surge in patient requirements during a temporary period of reduced regular staffing levels at the hospital. In case of medical emergencies, individuals are urged to dial 911 or visit emergency services if they are facing symptoms such as chest discomfort, unusual shortness of breath, severe abdominal pain, prolonged headache or dizziness, injuries needing stitches or related to broken bones, prolonged diarrhea or vomiting in children, or a fever of 38°C (100.4°F) or higher in babies under six months.
For health concerns or immediate medical guidance, individuals can contact 811 to speak with a knowledgeable registered nurse. Numerous health services in P.E.I. are accessible without a referral from a physician or nurse practitioner. Pharmacists are also equipped to evaluate and prescribe for common conditions and renew eligible prescriptions through the Pharmacy Plus P.E.I. initiative.
Additional medical professionals are being recruited for the Kings County hospital’s ER by Health P.E.I. to address the recent closures. Walk-in clinics are available for those seeking medical attention.
