YouTuber and TV personality Lilly Singh has been granted an honorary doctor of laws degree by York University, her alma mater. The degree recognizes her achievements in community building, pop culture, and entertainment in Toronto.

Singh expressed her excitement about adding “PhD” to her name, joking that it might become a permanent part of her identity. She mentioned plans to commemorate the honor with subtle gestures like a sign outside her house reading “Lilly Singh, PhD.”

To celebrate, Singh intends to dedicate a day to self-care, spend time with her doctorate, and write a letter to her younger self. During her convocation address, she reflected on her journey since earning her psychology degree in 2010, recalling how she wore a T-shirt with an “S” to represent her YouTube persona, Superwoman.

With a successful career that started on YouTube and transitioned to mainstream media, Singh, now 37, has hosted shows like “A Little Late with Lilly Singh” and “Battle of the Generations.” She has also ventured into film, notably co-writing, producing, and starring in the comedy “Doin’ It.”

While Singh currently resides in Los Angeles, she remains uncertain about a permanent move back to Canada due to tensions between the two countries. She emphasized the importance of embracing lifelong learning and adapting to new opportunities as they arise.

Singh’s journey serves as a testament to her versatility and determination in the entertainment industry, with her future plans guided by her passion and purpose.
