Malindi Elmore achieved a remarkable feat by setting a new Canadian masters record for women aged 45-49 during the Valencia Marathon in Spain. Her impressive time of 2 hours, 24 minutes, and 54 seconds secured her 12th place and marked an improvement of 1 minute and 21 seconds from her previous performance. This achievement also surpassed the previous masters record set by Krista DuChene in March 2023 by a significant margin of 14 minutes.

Elmore described the marathon as another solid performance in her running career, highlighting the challenges and rewards of each race. Despite facing unexpected weather conditions and a tough patch during the race, she managed to push through and achieve a sub 2:25 finish with only six seconds to spare.

Joyciline Jepkosgei of Kenya emerged as the race winner, setting a new course record of 2:14:00, making it one of the fastest marathons globally and the fourth fastest women’s marathon in history. Elmore, who had to overcome a foot injury earlier in the year, showcased her resilience and determination during the race, ultimately finishing strong with a time of 2:24:54.

In a separate standout performance, Élissa Legault, another elite Canadian runner, achieved a personal best time of 2:29:05, setting a new Quebec record and surpassing her previous best by over four minutes. Legault expressed her excitement and satisfaction with her performance, crediting the support of the crowd and her determination during the race for her success.

These outstanding achievements by Elmore and Legault demonstrate the dedication and skill of Canadian athletes in the competitive world of marathons.
