Vancouver police have reported that three individuals were stabbed near the Yaletown seawall this Friday morning, with the female suspect still on the loose. The stabbings occurred close to David Lam Park around 7:30 a.m. PT, according to law enforcement officials.
Const. Tania Visintin, a spokesperson for the Vancouver Police Department, mentioned that the victims sustained non-life-threatening wounds and were promptly transported to a medical facility. She indicated that the stabbings are believed to have happened in three distinct incidents, possibly only minutes apart.
Visintin informed CBC News that the stabbings appeared to be unprovoked and random, with no prior altercations reported. The suspect is described as an Indigenous woman in her late 20s to early 30s, sporting long black hair tied in a ponytail, a slim physique, and dressed in a large black leather jacket, tight pants, and a leopard-print shirt or scarf. Law enforcement officers are currently scouring the area for surveillance footage to obtain a clearer image of the suspect.
Expressing understanding of the concerns of seawall users, Visintin characterized the incident as alarming for both regular seawall visitors and local residents. She emphasized that while the physical injuries are expected to heal, the emotional impact of such a random assault can be significant. Visintin urged individuals with any relevant information or video recordings to come forward and assist the police in their investigation.
