“Mayor Danny Breen Secures Re-Election in St. John’s”

Share

Longtime Mayor Danny Breen has secured another term as the leader of the City of St. John’s, triumphing in the municipal election with 3,613 more votes than his closest rival, business owner Ivy Hanley. Breen, who has been a council member since 2009 and mayor for the past eight years, has overseen the city’s progress in infrastructure projects, economic growth, and successfully hosting the Canada Summer Games in August.

Despite Breen’s re-election, the city council will welcome five new members. Former Ward 5 Coun. Carl Ridgeley gracefully conceded on social media prior to the official announcement of results, expressing gratitude for his four-year tenure and extending congratulations to the winners.

Among the election outcomes are the re-election of Ron Ellsworth as deputy mayor, along with the election of new council members, including Kate Cadigan, Lynn Hammond, Nikita Ryall, and others in various wards. Donnie Earle emerged victorious in Ward 5 with a significant majority of 59.16% of the votes.

The updated council roster includes Danny Breen as mayor, Ron Ellsworth as deputy mayor, and a mix of re-elected and newly elected members in different council positions.
