Mike O’Shea, a renowned figure in CFL coaching, has been confirmed to continue leading the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, as announced by the team on Friday. At 55 years old, O’Shea, a distinguished two-time CFL coach of the year and holder of six Grey Cup titles, will mark his 12th season as the head coach for the Bombers in 2026.

Under O’Shea’s guidance, Winnipeg has impressively secured playoff berths for nine consecutive seasons. Notably, the team participated in five consecutive Grey Cups from 2019 to 2024, emerging victorious in the initial two championship games.

The decision for O’Shea’s return comes at a crucial juncture with the Toronto Argonauts seeking a new head coach following Ryan Dinwiddie’s departure to assume the coaching and general manager role at the Ottawa Redblacks. Originating from North Bay, Ontario, O’Shea previously served as a linebacker for the Argonauts from 1996 to 1999 and 2001 to 2008. Transitioning to a coaching role, he was Toronto’s special teams coordinator from 2010 to 2013 before transitioning to his current head coaching position with the Bombers.

In addition to O’Shea’s contract extension, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers also confirmed the return of general manager Kyle Walters for the upcoming season. Walters, whose contract was also nearing expiration, will remain with the team for the foreseeable future.
